Sadly, some writers who had committed to taking part are no longer coming to the Festival due to the unresolved crisis in Rakhine State. Whilst we are very sorry to lose the participation of these wonderful exponents of their art, we respect their reasons for not attending this year.
In turn we hope it is understood that as a Literary Festival it would not be appropriate for the Festival to comment on the current situation in Rakhine State. The Festival’s objectives have always been to provide a forum for free speech, open dialogue and cultural exchange; it will continue to do so this year and in future years.
With so many writers taking part we hope everyone can understand that the programme is a work in progress right up until days before the Festival.
