The Irrawaddy Literary Festival is a UK registered Charity (Registered charity number: 1168517) with entirely philanthropic goals, such as bolstering free speech, improving literacy, and providing a forum for interactions between international and Myanmar authors. No salaries or fees are paid to anyone involved. All funds raised are devoted to producing a three-day long programme of events which is completely free of charge and attracts visitors from all over Myanmar and, increasingly, overseas.
Support for the Festival is mostly in kind – generous sponsors and supporters directly settling the Festival’s costs at source – in accordance with the trustees’ objective of securing sustainable, responsible support.
Core Myanmar sponsor, Max Myanmar Holdings, providing crucial support for the third consecutive year, is now joined for the 2017 event by KBZ Bank as the Festival’s second core Myanmar sponsor. Internationally the Festival is building on successful sustainable relationships already forged with Embassies in the region (principally the U.S.), esteemed Universities, Melbourne and Manchester (MMU) and local hosts Sedona Hotel and Mandalay Hill resort Hotel (the Festival venue for the third consecutive year).
Without the generosity of these and other supporters the Festival could not happen. With their continued interest and invaluable goodwill the Irrawaddy Literary Festival will go from strength to strength.
